If you make a change to the journal website settings and try to click Save but the system "hangs" (where the loading circle spins next to the button), try clearing your cache and cookies. Make the change and try to save again. If this doesn't work, there's a bigger issue at hand. Here is the procedure for troubleshooting:

  • In your browser, right click and choose Inspect
  • Choose the Network tab within the new panel that appears
  • Nav to whatever page you're trying to edit
  • Right click on one of the column headings like "Name" in the panel and look in the resulting pop-up list to ensure the "Method" column is in view
  • Set up the action you're trying to do just until you're ready to execute/save it
  • Clear the network log by clicking the "circle with a slash through it" or the trashcan button (depending on which browser you're using) in the panel to eliminate clutter

  • Attempt your save or whatever you're trying to do
  • Look in the network log for HTTP requests with POST in the method column
    • The label for the action you just did will probably be self-explanatory, like save-user or whatever is relevant to your action
  • Select that row and click on the Response column
    • You may see some text that references an ASM security policy and gives an Error ID. That's what we need to verify that this is being blocked by the firewall. We'll send those IDs to Pitt IT and they adjust the firewall rules accordingly to unblock legitimate traffic
  • Send request URL from Headers section

Note: If you go through the troubleshooting process and there still are issues after Pitt IT tries to resolve it, there is a larger problem. Pitt IT is working constantly to make our journal operating systems as smooth as possible for our users. Staff at POLP are happy to take the actions you need, like saving an announcement or making a submission, if your computer is unable to.
