As of August 31, 2024, the ULS will no longer be offering sponsored accounts to the Wall Street Journal Digital Daily Edition.
By taking on a portion of the cost and administrative duties around the license, WSJ needed to adhere to ULS collection policies. Unfortunately, last year, we failed to reach an agreement during the renewal process. Per our Licensing Principles for Electronic Resources, we need confidentiality of user data and require that “usage data shall not be disclosed or sold to any third party.” The WSJ is insisting that users agree to privacy terms that would allow them to give user data to third parties. Users would need to opt out of this on their own.
This does not mean that we are losing access to all Wall Street Journal content, we still have current and searchable access through ProQuest. This only affects the personal digital subscriptions that have been sponsored by the ULS.
