Items will automatically be marked “lost” when they are 15+ days overdue and a notification will be sent to the borrower. Provided the item has not already been replaced, borrowers can return and fees will be adjusted to the standard daily overdues based on the item itself and the lost status will be removed immediately.
*Items can be declared lost or damaged even before the 15 day overdue period by contacting the library.
If an item is lost or damaged, there are two options for replacement:
- Allow ULS staff to assess replacement costs and then pay to clear the account
- Staff will contact our purchasing department for accurate replacement costs based on the item. You will owe this amount + a $25 processing fee per item. *You will be contacted with the pricing when we hear back. This will not be an immediate process.
- The full replacement cost and processing fee should be paid all at once.
- The item will be removed from your account. If the item is found after this process has occurred, no refunds will be issued and the item is yours to keep
- Provide your own replacement copy (Subject to approval)
- Personally provided replacement copies must be an exact match to the lost item in title/edition/format and be in good condition. Staff can provide you with the exact ISBN# of the item if you would like to pursue this method.
- All personal replacements are subject to approval of the ULS bibliographer and will need to be assessed before they are accepted.
- A $25 processing fee will still be owed per item which should be paid in full.
